The recent debate over Dubai's taking over a number of US ports has caused an eruption of debate over homeland security, foreign control of ports, and the threat of terror. Republican governors are now threatening legal action to stop the takeover while Jimmy Carter now says he supports the administration on the approval of the takeover by the Dubai company.
If Jimmy Carter is in favor of this, then I think the Bush administration seriously needs to rethink their position. Even Slippery Chuck Schumer is against the takeover.
"Ensuring the security of New York's port operations is paramount and I am very concerned with the purchase of Peninsular & Oriental Steam by Dubai Ports World," Gov. Pataki said in a news release. "I have directed the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to explore all legal options that may be available to them."
I don't believe the Democrats are really against this in principle, but it does give them a great opportunity to act like they really care about national security after their spineless behavior on the Iraq War and War on Terror.
