Ron Paul Leading McCain in Cash

Some how, Ron Paul, the outside long shot for the GOP nomination is ahead of John McCain in fundraising cash on hand. Paul has $2.4 million to McCain's $2 million. McCain recently let go a number of staff and advisers in order to cut costs.(source)

Paul's amount places him third in the field, although he is significantly behind Giuliani and Romney. Thompson has still not yet "formally" declared for the race, so he is not counted.

This doesn't really mean anything, Paul won't win a single primary and will return to libertarian limbo in no time.

It might be time for McCain to call it a day, he's looking rough and a little pathetic. Retiring with dignity in the senate would be his best option.

The more people hear Ron Paul's message; he will only become more popular. It's so nice to have an honest politician to elect for once.

Please, Ron Paul is a joke. He's not a Republican, he's a libertarian. He only runs in the GOP so he can be in Congress. That's dishonest in my opinion.
RP is going nowhere in a hurry.

Hey there! Nice blog. I am trying to make a conservative digg alternative called GOP Hub (GOPHub.com). Anything you can do to help with this effort would be awesome. Plus feel free to submit any articles you write here on your blog :). Take care and have a great weekend!

I don't know what you think a conservative Republican is, if you feel so free to bash those who support liberty, but your anti-freedom bias has no place in the Republican Party or the conservative movement. I give you Ronald Reagan:
"If you analyze it I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism...The basis of conservatism is a desire for less government interference or less centralized authority or more individual freedom and this is a pretty general description also of what libertarianism is."

Scott:
I don't need a lesson on what conservatism is, but it is certainly not embodied in Ron Paul. For one thing, Ron Paul is opposed to free trade under NAFTA, the WTO(GATT), and CAFTA. Free trade has been a hallmark of conservatism and is responsible for the better trade relations that we have throughout the world and the huge rise in GDP in many developing countries along with American and Western ingenuity.
He is also defeatist about Iraq. His line on cutting and running there is mimics the Democrats. Regardless of whether he supported or opposed the invasion, it makes no sense to concede defeat in a vital country like Iraq and hand it to the mullahs of Iran.
He also voted against the Patriot Act, one of the most important tools to fight against terrorism domestically and in foreign countries.
I admire his smaller government view, but he's not Reagan-esque, and is not Presidential in my opinion.

RP's ideals can be constructive; they can serve to promote consideration of limited government views, which is always a good thing. Beyond that, I have to agree that he is going "nowhere in a hurry."

McCain has disappointed me time and again. With all respect, it is time to call his game.

You people have a weird idea of what "conservative" means. You also have a weird idea of what Ron Paul stands for.

He isn't opposed to free trade. What he does oppose is handing over our national sovereignty to international 'nongovernmental' agencies like the WTO and NAFTA. Anyone who criticizes Paul for opposing NAFTA and then turns around and complains about illegal immigration is a hypocrite.

And no one -- I repeat -- NO ONE who supports the so-called Patriot Act can make any claim to being a conservative who understands the principles under which our Republic was founded. You might as well just use the Constitution for toilet paper.

"Conservatives" don't support Anti-American NGO-sponsored end-runs around the Constitution disguised as "FREE" trade policy. "FREE" trade doesn't need "POLICY". This is "managed" trade.

NAFTA is evolving into the CFR's North American Union - I supposed I'm not "conservative" enough to support that.

Ron Paul '08!

Those who believe NAFTA and the WTO are 'pro-free trade' should seriously read about these organizations. They are managed trade. This is an important difference. The health of a free market is determined by the size of it's middle class. Our middle class is shrinking rapidly, Canada's middle class is shrinking rapidly, and Mexico's middle class is all but dead. This has all happened SINCE NAFTA started. Also note, our old Republicans opposed NAFTA (remember that Clinton initiated NAFTA). No, any Republican who supports NAFTA, WTO, or SPP is either misguided or uninformed. The Republican party has lost it's way. Seriously. We will NEVER see small government candidates again if Ron Paul doesn't have a significant showing.
