John Edwards Says Get Rid of Your SUV

Former Senator John Edwards wants you to sell your SUV. After all, those gas guzzling vehicles are terrible for the environment, a symbol of American decadence, and dangerous on the road. He wants to keep driving his though.

Edwards stated that he would expect Americans to sell their SUV's in exchange for more efficient vehicles. How Stalin-esque. Nevertheless, the Politico's Ben Smith points out that Edwards' web page states, "Edwards believes that everyone should be able to drive the car, truck or SUV of their choice and still enjoy high fuel economy."

I'm sure the Breck Girl won't want to give up flying around in private jets and would have certainly worked at a Hedge Fund for free instead of taking a huge six digit salary. Oh, wait a sec.... he did take the salary, but it was to learn about poverty. What better way to learn about poverty than to work at a hedge fund.

By that argument, Dick Cheney learned a great deal on the environmentt by working at Haliburton. Don't get me wrong, I love oil companies and would happily work at one too, but Dick Cheney isn't telling people what they should or shouldn't be driving.

Edwards' campaign manager further stated, "John Edwards believes that all Americans need to be patriotic about something other than war, and that means conserving at home, at work, and in the cars they drive. And that includes the Edwards family. They drive a hybrid Ford Escape, but they also still own a Chrysler Pacifica – which they use less often. He is reducing his own impact on global warming by driving a hybrid, building an energy-efficient home, and subsidizing renewable energy to offset the carbon emissions of his home, vehicles, and his campaign."

Of course he believes that. I'm sure the "red necks" and "good-ol' boys" in South Carolina want a snot nosed lawyer telling them what to drive. I can just see Billy Bob and Cleatus muddin' in an environmentally friendly Toyota Prius...
