Two USF Students Indicted, One on Terror Charges

Two men were indicted today, one of whom had terrorism charges against him. The men attended the University of South Florida which is located in Tampa and has regional campuses in Sarasota and elsewhere.

The students are believed to be of Middle Eastern descent, named Ahmed Abdellatif Sherif Mohamed and Youssef Samir Megahed. They were arrested in South Carolina on August 4, 2007 near a Navy weapons station and had what appeared to be pipe bombs in the trunk of their vehicle.(source)

Both men are Egyptian nationals and were pulled over for speeding. "The U.S. Attorney is South Carolina began an investigation with assistance from FBI and other federal agencies, but federal charges were filed by the U.S. Attorney for the middle district of Florida, and the grand jury was convened in Tampa."(id)
