Hillary Trailing GOP Candidates

Hillary Rodham Clinton trails, count'em, 5 GOP candidates in a new poll by Zogby. The poll shows Hillary behind "Republican candidates Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson, John McCain and Mike Huckabee by three to five percentage points in the direct matches".(source)

Despite her lead among Democrats, Republicans and many independents would not vote for Clinton "no matter what". She is probably more divisive than any politician in America. "The questions about her electability have always been there, but as we get close this suggests that is a problem," Zogby said.(id)

Obama and Edwards, by contrast, hold narrow leads over Republican contenders. Despite the new poll, Clinton remains a formidable candidate. She has tons of money and the name recognition that most can only dream of. A lot of people still think that electing Hillary will essentially mean Bill for another 4 years.

Remember, back in 2004, Howard Dean was leading the Democratic race going into Iowa before his colossal meltdown during the infamous "scream speech". It could happen to Hillary or Obama again.

Well if this poll is accurate about the sentiment of the country, then it looks like it would be smart for the Democrats to switch over to Obama or Edwards.
