Why the CFL Sucks

Senator Larry Campbell personifies the stupidity of the Canadian senate, an illegitimate body that better resembles a nursing home than a democratic branch of government. This stupidity has led him to draft a bill to make it illegal to play football in Canada with anything other than 3 downs. Nevermind the energy crisis and national security, let's worry about the CFL which can't survive without government hand-outs.

Meanwhile, investors and fans are lining up and putting up big bucks for Buffalo Bills games in Toronto.

So here is a list of why the CFL stinks:
1. Affirmative action - mandating quotas for Canadian players on a roster.
2. Three downs - no running game of any significance.
3. 12 players on the field - too many
4. The field - almost the size of an airport runway being 60 yards wide.
5. Why is it 110 yards long? Did 100 make too much sense?
6. Endzones the size of air craft carriers.
7. Punting it through the endzone gives you 1 point.
8. Field goal posts in the middle of the endzone and field of play.
9. Any Canadian player with talent wants to play in the NFL, not the CFL.
10. The CFL is not even a back up for NFL rejects who would rather play arena football, or would have gone to Europe instead when NFL Europe was functioning.
11. As mentioned before, it requires government hand-outs to function.... pathetic. Not how I want my tax dollars spent, the CBC is bad enough.
12. The lack of tailgating in comparison to the American football tradition. If you've never, been you don't understand what you're missing.

Feel free to add to my list. And don't call me unpatriotic, most CFL players are Americans anyway. The CFL is a joke.

Hey Strong Conservative, too bad you put all that energy into writing this ridiculous rant only to not get anyone to care enough to be baited by your obvious provocative motives. It's been, what, three months and no one has bothered to respond to (or even read) your posting. Keep trying bud, maybe someone will get back to you in December when Grey Cup is over and the other 99% of us who are too busy watching the CFL will have time to laugh at your joke...! :D

I must confess I have never watched a CFL game live, but have watched a fair bit on tv over the years and I can only conclude that the CFL just doesn't have the sheer appeal of the NFL. Also, how can you call a 9 team league a 'league'? (2 of which used to have the same name). Every few years, the teams play musical chairs with their players as well as coaches. I mean geez, Don Matthews has coached for 5 out the 9 CFL teams...

Sure the NFL is overhyped and has a WAY BIGGER BUDGET, but irregardless of that, in terms of simply how the product is presented to the tv viewer, there is no comparison. Everything from the audio, to the graphics, to the commentary, it is done in a much more exciting and dynamic way.

Some argue the CFL is a more exciting game because there is generally more scoring because of the bigger end zone and scoring system which had to be done obviously to differentiate from the NHL, but also I believe in my part, to make the lower level talent in the CFL look better. Part of the reason why the CFL has less talent too is because of the 'Canadian content' rules. I am betting any top 10 ranked NCAA team could easily compete with the top CFL team if they played in either format. Really, it doesn't really matter which brand of football is considered 'better'. It is all subjective. The bottom line is, which game are the viewers watching and for me it is the NFL and I am betting there are a lot more Canadians watching the NFL than the CFL.
