The CBC has confirmed that Heather Mallick is under review after a recent column disparaging Sarah Palin in disgusting manner. I'd like to think I had a little something to do with this after exchanging a few emails with Mr. Vince Carlin, who was very nice, over the column. Now, Fox News has even picked up the story.
There's nothing wrong with disagreeing with Sarah Palin and her political views, but there is something wrong with making sexist, defamatory, and rude comments about her and her family. Mallick should be ashamed of what she did, but I'd imagine her leftist self-righteousness won't allow for that. Mallick would probably forget that there's world beyond the boundaries of the 427, 401, and DVP in her self-indulgent socialist paradise of Toronto.
I hope Ms. Mallick enjoys her review, and perhaps she'll even learn something about respect, kindness, and courtesy along the way.

I have long HATED the writings of left wing, feme-nazi, Mallick. A review couldn't happen to a nicer person.
I'd wish her good luck but I wouldn't really mean it.
Mallick is wondering why her far left views are under attack. She's to dense to realize that only 1% of people actually think like her, ever.
CBC has over stepped the bounds with that article, but freedom of speech should be allowed. We can show our disgust by not watching CBC and telling their sponsors why. Not that it matters to CBC because it's still taxpayers money paying for this garbage.
Holy moley!! I can't believe CBC is actually doing this. This is about the third or fourth bigshot staffer who has been reined in by the CBC brass. They must be receiving the message!!!! Wonder of all wonders.
Now if the gutless government of this country could just privatize that damned thing, then I wouldn't give too hoots about who they have on their payroll or what sort of slant they pander.
I'm just sick of my dime paying for something that does not represent me and which seems to act as the official mouthpiece for the liberal-left part of the political spectrum rather than reflecting the entire spectrum of views held by their shareholders. I desparately want to sell my shares, but it seems I can't.
You've made my day. Freedom of speech? By all means. She should feel free to continue to spew vitriol all she likes - on her own time, on her own personal blog. But not on my reluctant nickel.
i too wrote the ombudsmen on this, and encourage all of you to do the same.
Here is some of what Denis Andrychuk (CBC reations dept) wrote:
***
You wrote to draw our attention to a column by Heather …, “A Mighty Wind blows through Republican convention.” It is “offensive,” you wrote.
… as the section heading – Analysis & Viewpoint – suggests our pages contain clearly identified viewpoint and opinion. We invite some of the best (writers) in the country, Ms. Mallick among them… It is CBC’s mandate...under the federal Broadcasting Act, to offer a range of views on matters of public interest and concern.
…
Ms. Mallick, a veteran Canadian journalist, columnist and editor, has won awards for her reviews and feature writing… I should be clear that the opinions they express are their own. We do not expect all our readers will share them...

i replied that although it is an opinion piece, CBC can use a little good judgement about whether or not to actually publish it. I suspect they wouldn't give the same space to a hate mongering neo-nazi (nor should they)
