The left is trying to play down the election results in New York, New Jersey, and Virginia, but it seems quite clear that people are rejecting the Big Government policies in areas that Obama had won in 2008. CNN and Fox News have declared Christie and McDonnell winners so far in their respective states. Christie's win is especially significant since NJ is typically a very blue state and has not elected a Republican to a state wide office in some time.
Hoffman, surprisingly to me, is trailing Owens by about 4% with 64% of polling stations reporting at 10:48pm EST. This would be a surprise to conservatives for a Democrat win in a district that has been traditionally Republican for decades.
The Democrats may have an even tougher time next year if the unemployment numbers don't start turning around. Ten percent unemployment will leave Obambi with a lot of explaining to do. It's no surprise to conservatives that if you implement anti-business policies, it will be hard to create jobs. Nevertheless, Obama, Biden and Pelosi keep spewing the fantasy that "green" jobs will be created in the same way a magician pulls a rabbit from a hat.
UPDATE
Corzine has just conceded to Christie.

It's actually rather simple.
There aren't enough hard conservative voters in the United States for the Republicans to win.
Just like the Democrats need support from moderates, so do the Republicans.
It doesn't make sense to simply abandon them to the Democrats for the purpose of pursuing a hard conservative agenda.
The simple part Patrick, is that "moderates" (i.e. the unprincipled, conviction lacking RINO's) continuously lose national elections.
Reagan didn't compromise on his core principles and it's the reason his ideas continue to endure with strength.
Patrick Ross- There aren't enough hard conservatives in the U.S for the Republicans to win.
Almost 60% of the country is conservative, and growing. The reason the republicans WONT get the conservative vote, is because those republicans DO NOT share the core beliefs that represent REAL conservatism.
Reagan was true in his core beliefs, and ideas. Results were landslides!
The notion that Republicans need moderates is un founded. Most moderates vote Democratic, or lean to the left more.
Its not that the republican party abandons the moderate voter, its the moderate voter that abandons the party.
The conservative movement has grown tired of politicians using conservative mantra only to get elected, then voting liberal to stay in office. This is why those such as Palin and Levine, as well as others will only support true conservatives, whether they win or loose. That in itself is proof that true conservatives will not sacrifice core beliefs for election results. Hoffman did not have a chance, but they stood behind him based on principle.
Until we have a unified GOP, with true conservatives, the GOP will continue to loose. Moderates or no moderates!
Just curious are you an american living in canada? a lot of post seem to be about american issues
Justin: I'll answer that in case JS is too busy.
The Strong Conservative is a Canadian who lived in the States for a while, Florida, I believe.
Probably moved back to Canada to have a better life and Medicare, heh.
THanks CG, pretty darn good except for the Medicare part.
I moved back to escape the socialist presdient of course, jk.
American politics is just far more sexy these days, I mean come on... Gilles, Iggy, and Jack don't exactly instill excitement and big dreams.
