Government in the Red? No Pay for Congress or the White House

Obama has brought some changes, undoubtedly. Has an administration ever asked the CEO of a major corporation to step down in the past? Has the White House ever attacked private citizens from the bully pulpit like Obama has towards Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Jim Cramer, or Rick Santelli? Has the executive ever let such irrational debt spending ever occur in the past, even in times of war? However, his proposals are nothing new because statism and central planning are nothing new. Obama supporters are usually just too ignorant to recognize this reality.

Obama is using the fear of (not the reality of) a financial crisis to ram through monumental change in America. America may never recover from the leftward lurch it is currently experiencing without bold new ideas and leadership. It is almost inconceivable that the current occupant of the White House is making the corporations and institutions that are the bedrock of capitalism the perceived enemy of the people. This is especially worrying when considering that the United States owes its success and power to the free markets. The economic ills we experience today are due much more to the intervention of the government, cronyism by the elites, and "pay to play" politicians like Chris Dodd, Barney Frank, and Chuck Schumer.

What is freedom except the basic freedom to choose? Freedom of choice is the summation of capitalism, and democracy follows close behind. When the government makes economic choices for individuals, the political choices for individuals will also be centralized in time. As appeasement is to surrender, so too is central planning to tyranny and despotism.

I have a bold but simple idea to help prevent the government from growing beyond the consent of the governed. This is not a catch all, but one aspect which I believe would assist in stemming the tide toward statism. If the government runs a deficit the elected representatives receive no pay.

The representatives would include members of the House of Representatives, Senators, the President, VP, and the cabinet. Only when the government runs a surplus from year to year using the same accounting principles as the private sector will these representatives be eligible for their salary.

I suspect some would worry that the government would be handcuffed in times of difficulty, such as we experience today. However, the representatives previously mentioned should surely be willing to sacrifice for their country just as average citizens do, not to mention the men and women in uniform who risk far more than their salary on the front lines.

If the government wishes to be "in the black", it will have the choice of either cutting spending or raising taxes. The self interest of the individual elected representatives (the core of capitalism) will result in a shrinking personal bank account, which is unlikely, or a government that is forced into accountability. I would guess that the earmarks Congress and the President so dearly love would get a much more scrutinized review. New programs or ideas would have to be balanced against actual "necessities" necessary to the defence and well being of the nation.

Reagan's words regarding government action seem so appropriate today in light of GM and Chrysler: "If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. If it stops moving, subsidize it."

I believe that if my idea was implemented the government would be forced to account for its actions personally, instead of mortgaging the future of children yet unborn. I'd be happy to hear your thoughts on my proposal, feel free to send me an email or leave a comment.

At the very least I hope I stimulate discussion and the creation of ideas. We could use a few new ones.

I Too Want Obama to Fail

I want Barack Obama to fail in his policies for America because I believe they're socialist in nature and will weaken a great nation that has always stood for individual liberty, the rule of law, and democracy. Of course, America has its flaws, but if Obama succeeds, America will not be the country with the values and principles upon which it was founded.

Many in the media would like to spin this desire to see Obama fail by conservatives like Rush Limbaugh and politicians like Bobby Jindal as a shocking new turn in American politics, but it's not. Democrats also wanted George W. Bush to fail: "Forty percent wanted him to succeed, but 51 percent did not."

This isn't a slam against Democrats, but if you disagree adamantly against a politician's policies, why would you want those policies to succeed? Of course, all Americans (except maybe Patrick Leahy and Harry Reid) want the United States to succeed as a nation, but you cannot believe that every policy put forward will inevitably lead to success. If that were the case, there would be no point to democratic elections and the republican system of government.

Rush Limbaugh's whole quote, not the clipped CNN/MSNBC/NY Times version, was: "I would hope he would succeed if he acts like Reagan. But if he is going to do FDR … why would I want him to succeed? … If he is going to implement a far-left agenda … $2 trillion in stimulus, the growth of government … nationalized health care, I mean, it's over. … That's the end of America as we have known it because that's then going to set the stage for everything being government-owned, -operated or -provided. Why would I want that to succeed? I don't believe in that. I know that's not how this country is going to be great in the future. It's not what made this country great. So I shamelessly say, 'No, I want him to fail.' If his agenda is a far-left collectivism — some people say socialism — as a conservative, heartfelt, deeply, why would I want socialism to succeed?"

Obama's presidency has been marred by massive deficits, appointees with tax problems, teleprompters, and ineptitude. This might be good for survival of capitalism (and perhaps individualism), but Obama has been bad for America so far.

I always want statism to fail in all its forms, whether it be socialism, fascism, communism, despotism, or tyranny.

Barack the Bore

Take away his teleprompter and fanfare and Barack Obama is just plain boring. He answered questions slowly and painfully tonight, avoided giving any substance or depth to his answers, and came across as the mediocre junior senator he was just a few months ago.

Its laughable that the media doesn't call him on the idea that health care spending and "renewable energy" will save the economy. That's like saying that once we figure out pixie dust and unicorns the job market will improve.

Gutless Gutfeld

I'd wager Greg Gutfeld and his second rate, unknown comedian guest Doug Benson don't have the stones to cross the border and walk the streets in Canada for the next year. Nor would they be able to look a Canadian soldier from Gagetown, Camp Borden, or the Princess Pats in the eye for 5 seconds and dare to mock them.

Everyone Else Has to Cut Back, Except Government

When businesses and individuals are cutting back to stay alive, government does the opposite. Families and industry are doing what they can to survive, provide, and keep on keeping on, but the government just acts obliviously. The unionized government workers who believe they're entitled to a paycheck for life, a golden pension, and the impossibility of getting fired are being increased in Ontario, Washington, Ottawa, and elsewhere. Have you heard of any hiring freezes by government?

Of course not, because every government service whether productive or useful becomes essential to the victims of the evil capitalist society we live in.

Take Pelosi, she's demanding Air Force planes for her use as "speaker" despite the fact that America and it's allies fight a two front war in the Middle East. Documents obtained by Judicial Watch reveal this:

The e-mails showed repeated attempts by Pelosi aides to request aircraft, sometimes aggressively, and by Department of Defense officials to accommodate them.
"I think that's above and beyond what other members of Congress are doing and what is expected of our elected officials," said Jenny Small, a researcher with the group.
In one e-mail, aide Kay King complained to the military that they had not made available any aircraft the House speaker wanted for Memorial Day recess.
"It is my understanding there are NO G5s available for the House during the Memorial Day recess. This is totally unacceptable ... The Speaker will want to know where the planes are," King wrote.
In another, when told a certain type of aircraft would not be available, King wrote: "This is not good news, and we will have some very disappointed folks, as well as a very upset Speaker."

The corruption in Washington (for Dems and the GOP) is breeding the environment for revolution. I don't say that lightly, but government of this nature is unsustainable. It will either lead to revolt or despotism, but democracy embedded with earmarks, favours, special rules for government "appointees", sweetheart mortgage deals, and the like is fertilizer for destruction. God help us.

Limbaugh vs the Moderates

Rush Limbaugh has been proclaimed the leader of the GOP by Obama's minions, including a large percentage of the media elite, and Democrats in the House and Senate. While Limbaugh may speak for much of the GOP's base, he's certainly not the "leader" and has no desire to be. If he is, IBD makes the argument then George Soros is as much of a leader as of the Democratic Party.

The IBD is also, rightly, critical of "moderate" conservatives like David Brooks, David Frum, and others who think that the era of Reagan is over. They are correct in that Reagan is no longer alive, but the principles Reagan lived by were not first espoused by the Gipper. They are principles which have existed since the dawn of the American Revolution and prior in writings of Plato, Aristotle, Locke, Burke, and others who believed that government should be subject to the people, not the other way around. They still believe that man/society CANNOT be perfected through government, but that since we are inherently evil we must govern ourselves according to our human nature: self interest, the rule of law (republicanism), democracy, and inalienable rights.

Frum seems to forget that a majority of Democrats wanted his former boss to fail just as Rush hope's Obama's policies fail:
Yes, Rush wants Obama's socialism to fail just as liberals and Democrats wanted Bush's defense of capitalism and freedom to fail.
A Fox News/Opinion Dynamics poll of 900 registered voters taken Aug. 8-9, 2006, asked this question: "Regardless of how you voted in the presidential election, would you say you want President Bush to succeed or not?" Fifty-one percent of Democrats said no, they did not want Bush to succeed.

I realize that the blue-blooded Frum has been living in DC for many years away from "real" Americans who get dirty at work occasionally, have to work their way through school because they don't have a famous parent, and produce something other than paper in order to be paid on a regular basis. Frum, and other "moderate" Republicans/red Tories/so-called-Obamacons, should take heed of the IBD's editorial:

Rush believes in the Constitution and the First Amendment. He believes in freedom of religion and the freedom of speech. He believes in the Second Amendment and the right to bear arms to protect all our freedoms.
He believes in securing our borders and taking the war on terror to the enemy and winning. He believes that traditional marriage between a man and a woman is the bedrock of any stable society.
He believes that taxes should be low and are to fund the constitutional functions of government. He believes that government should work for us and not the other way around.
Rush does not believe, as Soros and the Democrats do, in open borders, confiscatory taxation, redistribution of wealth, a gutted military, appeasing despots or being forced under penalty of imprisonment to pay through our taxes other people's mortgages.

These principles will never change or go away.

Obama and Stem Cells

It's OK to play God with embryos and manipulate a living human organism in the name of science, but don't you dare try to genetically modify foods!!!!!

Obama's logic is about as good as an ejection seat on a helicopter. Just take carbon taxes: the Democrats (including moron "moderates" like David Brooks and David Frum) want to tax carbon emissions to discourage their use. However, Obama claims that a capital gains tax doesn't punish investors. No, no, it's just to make things more "fair". The Soviet politburo, Chi-Coms, and Castro thought they knew what was "fair" too.

As time goes, on it's more and more obvious that when it comes to the economy, Obama is a moron. I mean, the guy never had a real job until he became a state senator. Then again, that might not exactly be a real job either considering the shenanigans around Blagojevich.

Are we now living in Oceania?

Freedom is Slavery
Ignorance is Strength

A Letter from the Boss

Hope you enjoy this little anecdote:

Letter from the Boss,

As the CEO of this business that employs 140 people, I have accepted the fact that Barack Obama is our new President, and that our taxes and government fees will now increase in a BIG way.

To compensate for this additional overhead, I figure that the clients will have to see an increase in our fees of about 8% but since we cannot raise those prices right now due to the dismal state of our economy, we will have to lay off several of our employees instead. This unfortunate economic reality has really been eating at me for a while, as we believe we are family here and I didn't know how to choose who will have to go.

After giving it considerable thought, this is what I did: I strolled through our parking lot and found 11 Obama bumper stickers on our employees' cars and have decided these folks will be the first to be laid off. I can't think of a more fair way to approach this problem. They wanted change; I gave it to them. If you have a better idea, let me know.

Sincerely,

The Boss

Tory Loses

John Tory has lost his bid for the riding of Haliburton-Kawartha. It is likely he'll step down as leader of the Progressive Conservatives in Ontario. I can now support and contribute to the PC's again in this province once that occurs.

Tory's problem is that he had no plan for what he wanted to do if he was elected, what his political principles were, or why he wanted to be Premier. Mike Harris, like him or hate him, knew exactly what he wanted to do. Ernie Eves also suffered from Tory's political illness. Politicians must have an agenda or they flounder. Such is the case with our current Premier who has broken more promises than any other politician in Canada currently in office.

The rebuilding process for the Ontario PC's can now begin. And let us begin today.

Greed

I think I might start posting this video once a month just to drill into people's heads how dumb liberals like Donahue are and how capitalism is the best system of producing wealth and prosperity so far devised by mankind.

Obama is All Bad News

It seems that most have the assumption that Obama wants things to improve; I'd drop that assumption. How can he push forward a radical agenda if things are "hunky dory"? Could he get a Soviet health care plan pushed through? Could he reduce charitable contribution deductions so that people have to depend even more on government hand outs? Could he raise taxes on the productive?

Not only that ANOTHER Obama nominee has "tax problems". "Kirk, nominated as U.S. Trade Representative in the Obama administration, owes an estimated $10,000 in back taxes from earlier in the decade and has agreed to make his payments, the Senate Finance Committee said Monday." I don't know what the mayor of Dallas would know about international trade, but thou shalt not question the Obamessiah, the Depressor in Chief.

Obama is also fulfilling the conservative prophecy that he is an appeaser by pledging to trade missile defence to some "promise" from Russia to help on Iran. This is the same Russia who built Iran's nuclear reactor, the same "trustworthy" Russia run by Vladimir Putin. It almost seems like Obama has no idea what he's doing, possibly because he's got no real work experience let alone executive experience.

I have a feeling the market might drop by 1500 points or more in the coming weeks which could spark a panic. If that happens, Obama's talk will be worth just what it is now: jack squat. I have a feeling Obama doesn't even know what an S-Corp is and how disastrous his plan to raise taxes on those who earn over $250K a year. And during these recessionary times, I've still yet to hear Obama contemplate eliminating or even reducing the capital gains tax, a stupid tax on investment and innovation which only accounts for 4% of government revenue. But if you believe in redistribution of wealth, who cares if a tax makes sense or not. King Obama knows best despite his thin resume.

Obama looked less like a king and more like a jester today as he needed teleprompters to introduce Kathleen Sebelius for the position previously slotted for Tom Daschle. The damage Obama has been able to do in a few weeks is incredible, he's on his way to making George W. Bush look like an overachieving policy wonk.
