A RESPONSE TO WORLD MEDIA (not attributed)

We never claimed to be perfect
That means we’ve learned to be humble
We say excuse me and I'm sorry
…as well as please and thanks
Even when its not our fault we apologize

Sure one arm of the torch didn't rise,
But when the earthquake struck Haiti,
Canadians raised their hands to say
…”we’ll help”

And yah, there is a fence around the torch
But you can walk right up and shake hands
with our prime minister
... and most famous Canadians

We put Gretzky in the back of a pick up, in the rain,
not surrounded by police
…and he was okay
And by the way... the great one is Canadian
…and HE wasn’t complaining!

We do have security at the games, of course,
but most people don't even have a gun they have to leave at home

The medals ARE under lock and key but our doors and our hearts are open to the world

It has been pointed out that some buses broke down last week
….but let’s not overlook the fact that our banking system didn't

We didn't get the "green ice maker" right this time
…. but we will, eventually
Just like we did when we invented the zamboni

Citius altius fortius

If you don't reach higher how do you get faster and stronger

Was the first quad jump perfect?
Should we not have given snowboarding to the world "in case" it didn’t take off?

So big deal…one out of four torch arms didn't rise.
Good thing we had 3 more!
It’s called contingency planning!

But remember…the Canad-arm works every time
…in outer space
….and insulin turned out to be okay

We couldn't change the weather but maybe we can help stop global warming

We don't have the tax base of the US or the power of the Chinese but,
per capita, we ponied up for some pretty kick-ass venues in the worst global recession ever

Sure, some folks couldn't afford tickets but our health care is universal

We have shown the world that we can raise our voices in celebration and song but moments later stand in silence to respect a tragic event ...together..spontaneously…and unrehearsed.

What's more, we don't need permission from anyone to have a slam poet, fiddlers with piercings and a lesbian singer tell our story to the world while our multilingual female Haitian- born, black head of state shares a box with her first nations equals

We’ve shown the world that it doesn’t always rain in Vancouver,
that you can strive for excellence but not get hung up on perfection.
And we’ve learned what it feels like to be picked on by some no name newspaper guy and we don’t have to take it lying down!

So the point is not the snow, or the hydraulics or a couple guys
being 5 minutes late to a ceremony

We know we’re lucky that these are the biggest problems we
had to deal with in the last couple weeks.

So take your cheap shots….Guardian newspaper and cynics
of the world.

We're bigger and better than that.

What's more we're finally starting to believe it!

Do you believe?
Are you proud to be CANADIAN ?

We Win!

What a great day for Canada! We win gold in men's hockey! Congrats to the whole team, the whole contingent, the whole nation! Remember this day!

Sheer Democrat Hypocrisy

Politicians frequently suffer from foot in mouth disease and flip-flop, but the Democrats vowing to push health care through using the nuclear option is simply epic. Just listen to what they had to say about using 50 + 1 votes for judges back when Bush was President:

Voting on judges is slightly different than ramming a government takeover of health care through Congress while trampling on the rights of individuals. If anyone is violating the principles and wisdom of the founders, it is the Democrats. American government was designed to be small and limited in scope, not expansive and all encompassing as it now is.

Team Canada's Pathetic Win

Shades of 2006. Canada has put together a team of all stars, but ones who are either partying too hard or don't like doing the things necessary to do what's necessary to win. This is no all star game. Hitting counts, toughness counts.

This fancy play is not going to win a gold. I hope the players recognize that the nation is counting on them, and if that means mixing it up in the corners and getting a lot more shots on net instead of endless passing and fancy plays.

The Swiss shouldn't have caused such problems for team Canada. Yes, we got a win, but nothing to be proud of. The USA will be a much tougher opponent on Sunday.

Sarah Thomson for Toronto Mayor

Enough with the politicians, Toronto needs to be run like a business and, preferably, by a business woman with a track record of success. Toronto needs to be more business friendly to create jobs, it needs an expansive subway system, and the public servants need to serve the people, rather than the union bosses who often act like mob bosses.

For these reasons, Sarah Thomson has my vote. The TTC has been mismanaged and used as a weapon against the citizens of Toronto and those who commute to their jobs to force action. Mayor Miller, Giambrone, and other far-left politician have abandoned the people who entrusted them with power in favour of the special interests and unions.

Giambrone is only running for mayor and is already embroiled in an embarrassing fiasco of infidelity. He betrayed someone he claims to love dearly, so what's in store for the people of Toronto? And the worst part, the man idolizes David Miller. Nevermind his handling of the TTC how poorly the TTC serves its customers. The TTC doesn't even realize its riders are customers. Pathetic.

Rossi is a political insider and on the left, hardly a change from Miller or McGuinty with baggage and plenty of favours to pay back.

Smitherman has already cost the tax payers billions with his mismanagement of health care while a cabinet member of McGuinty's wasteful government. That he is the front runner is an embarrassment to the city and an insult to the voters.

The city councillors of Toronto have forgotten that their responsibility is to serve the people, and that their power is borrowed from the people. Instead, Torontonians have had to endure garbage strikes, transit strikes, massive fiscal waste, mismanagement, poor service, excuses, and corruption in city hall.

It's time for a change. It's time for an outsider to get the city working for the people once again, where business is eager to flock to and engage in commerce, and where tourists are coming in droves to experience.

Sarah Thomson has my vote. Give her yours too.

More Cracks in the Global Warming Temple

I've long said that the global warmists have created their own religion which worships the earth as a quasi-deity requiring us to pay penance (cap & trade), tithe to the less fortunate (or less sinful in terms of pollution offenses) through massive wealth transfers, and pay homage to the Pope of the warming cult, Al Gore.

Even the Guardian (UK) is now reporting serious concerns stemming from leaked emails from the East Anglia CRU. Keep in mind that Guardian is more left wing than the New York Times and Toronto Star combined.

A Guardian investigation of thousands of emails and documents apparently hacked from the University of East Anglia's climatic research unit has found evidence that a series of measurements from Chinese weather stations were seriously flawed and that documents relating to them could not be produced.

It's already been settled, unlike AGW, that the CRU broke the law in failing to comply with British freedom of information laws. Fortunately for the law breakers, they were saved by a technicality and won't be prosecuted.

But the Guardian refuses to see the writing on the wall. I give them credit for reporting the story, but they just won't let go of their faith in AGW despite the evidence: "The revelations on the inadequacies of the 1990 paper do not undermine the case that humans are causing climate change, and other studies have produced similar findings. But they do call into question the probity of some climate change science."

Of course not, if they did, the Guardian's editors would look quite silly considering they had an editorial just this week preaching that man-made global warming was real and hear to stay. But at least the Guardian mentions it. The pathetic pseudo-journalists at the Globe & Mail barely mention it in the news as if a second opinion doesn't really exist. Then again, the G&M did the same thing during the reign of Chretien, but I digress.

The sad part is that in all this hype and bluster, real environmental issues that are important are sidestepped and overlooked. There are environmental problems and serious ones. Most stem from communist or former communist nations who care less about the environment than the lives of their own people who are frequently brutalized. China, Russia, and the former Soviet Bloc countries left catastrophic messes after their ideologies disintegrated into the ash heap of history. China remains as a fascist-commanded economy with sprouts of capitalism, but is more like the Third Reich in its administration.

Remember that although many well meaning, but flawed thinking people are pushing eco-faith, there are also many for whom Green is the new Red. Maurice Strong, Al Gore, George Soros, and others have found a cause to replace socialism yet still build central planning and control systems to direct every facet of the economy and human life. It is not a conspiracy theory, but a threat to freedom.

Let people choose, and convince them with facts, evidence, and logic. People are not stupid, democracy resides upon the very notion.
